The Brain Research Institute

   The Brain Research Institute (BRI) is a catalyst for collaborations among nearly 300 research scientists and clinicians who study brain function in health and disease. The BRI accelerates the movement of ideas from “bench to bedside,” as our scientists explore ways to reduce the burdens that brain disorders impose on patients, families, and society.

   The BRI began at UCLA over 50 years ago. Prominent neuroscientists created an organization that not only produces important research but also serves as a magnet for outstanding research scientists, clinicians, and graduate students. Today’s BRI continues this tradition. Neuroscience touches every phase of life, from early development and learning to the pathologies associated with old age. The more connections we create, the greater our potential for improving millions of lives. Many of the projects we undertake call for expertise in biophysics, molecular biology, neuroanatomy, and clinical medicine. Because of our success in building collaborative research relationships, the BRI is instrumental in assuring continual progress in neuroscience research; our programs challenge, inspire, and nurture UCLA's neuroscientists.

   In order to ensure our ongoing progress, we need to support excellence in:
  • translational neuroscience research to accelerate the transition of new discoveries to new therapies and treatment;
  • the education and training of future neuroscientists; and
  • providing state-of-the art laboratory and core facilities for broad-based collaborations.
   For over 50 years, the BRI has achieved these goals despite vast changes in the arena of biomedical science. In large measure, credit for this achievement belongs to the individuals, foundations, and corporations that have invested in society's future by supporting this multi-faceted endeavor.

   With the support of our many long-standing benefactors and new donors, BRI scientists are continuing to uncover the brain's mysteries. Your gift – of any size – is a powerful endorsement of UCLA's Brain Research Institute--where anything is possible and amazing things are accomplished.
