Thank you for your interest in supporting the UCLA Center for International Medicine (CIM). Founded in 2002 by UCLA Professor Eric Savitsky, M.D., the Center’s mission is to improve global health through education, training, and technology.

  • Human resources are the heart of any health systems; unfortunately, healthcare workforce training has been neglected.
     
  • There is an estimated shortage of over 4 million healthcare workers worldwide.
     
  • Without a well-trained workforce, future health care interventions will fail.
     
  • While infectious diseases (HIV, Tuberculosis, and Malaria) attract the most attention from international donors they together account for only 10% of deaths in the world.
     
  • Injuries and chronic diseases (e.g., diabetes, cancer, lung, and cardiovascular diseases) cause nearly 70% of deaths worldwide.
     
  • Healthcare workforce development and many leading causes of death and disability have not been adequately recognized and supported by foundations, federal funding agencies, and the public.
     
The UCLA CIM seeks private donor support to address leading causes of death and disability worldwide through improved healthcare workforce development, health advocacy, and direct-to-the-public outreach efforts.
