Henry (Hank) I. Baylis, M.D., (1935 to 2017) Founding Chief of the UCLA Stein Eye Institute’s Division of Orbital and Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery sadly passed away September 20, 2017. He was a cherished friend, colleague, and an icon in the field of Oculoplastic surgery. To honor Hank’s remarkable legacy in both academic medicine and ophthalmology, the Stein Eye Institute has established the Henry I. Baylis, M.D. Fund in Orbital and Ophthalmic Surgery with the goal to raise $2,000,000 to establish an administrative endowed chair, to be held by the division chief of orbital and ophthalmic plastic surgery. The intention is to raise additional gifts for this fund. If a minimum of $100,000 in gifts is raised by June 30, 2018, this current use fund may be converted to an endowed fund to be called the Henry I. Baylis, M.D. Endowed Fund in Orbital and Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery, the payout of which will support the research activities of the Orbital and Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery Division. If the endowed fund is established by the end of 2018, and additional gifts bringing the fund total to a minimum of $2,000,000 are raised by June 30, 2022, I understand that the Dean of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA may convert the fund to establish an administrative endowed chair to be called the Henry I. Baylis, M.D. Chair in Orbital and Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery, to be held by the chief of the Division of Orbital and Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery. Thank you for your continued commitment to outstanding members of the UCLA family.
