Jane and Terry Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior at UCLA

The Jane and Terry Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior at UCLA is recognized as a world leader in human neuroscience research, education, clinical care, and wellness. It has assembled a preeminent roster of nearly 400 researchers and faculty across many disciplines who work collaboratively to study psychiatric and neurological disorders and to develop new and effective treatments that improve lives.

An interdisciplinary research and education facility, the Semel Institute is dedicated to the understanding of complex human behavior, including the genetic, biological, behavioral, and socio-cultural underpinnings of normal behavior and the causes, phenomenology, and consequences of neuropsychiatric disorders.

The Semel Institute’s research portfolio spans behavioral genetics, developmental and cognitive neuroscience, neurobiology, brain imaging, clinical research, health services, and policy research and socio-cultural studies of human behavior and psychopathology. Across the life cycle, a broad range of psychiatric and neurological disorders are studied intensively, including psychoses, depression, addiction, autism, developmental disorders, and eating disorders.

Through the Stewart and Lynda Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA and the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, the Semel Institute also provides extensive clinical care programs, as well as educational programs for medical and graduate students at UCLA.
