Over the last five decades, Dr. Takei has built a storied career and reputation in the field of Periodontics, working tirelessly to promote our tradition of excellence in education, patient care, research, and service. To honor his legacy, in 2023 the UCLA School of Dentistry established the biennial Dr. Henry H. Takei Periodontal Symposium. The next Takei Symposium will take place on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2025, from 1 to 5 p.m., followed by a dinner reception from 5 to 7. A location on the UCLA campus will be announced shortly.
Dr. Cortellini received his M.D. from the University of Florence (Italy) in 1980, and his D.D.S. in 1984 from the University of Siena (Italy). He runs a multidisciplinary private practice and educational center in Florence, while serving as a visiting professor in the Department of Oral Health Sciences at KU Leuven (Belgium). Dr. Cortellini is the founder of two research non-profit organizations, ATRO, and ERGOPerio, and the founder of the Cortellini Perio Academy. A past president of the Italian Society of Periodontology (SldP) and the European Federation of Periodontology, he currently serves as president of the SIdP Foundation and promoter of a national project to help prevent oral diseases among autistic patients. Dr. Cortellini lectures extensively on a national and international level, he is a referee of the main scientific journals in the field of periodontology, and is the author of more than 150 original publications in scientific journals.
The Symposium will bring together UCLA Periodontics alumni, graduate periodontal residents, dental students, and friends from all over the world to learn from world-renowned experts in the field of periodontics and to encourage the pursuit of postgraduate periodontal training among UCLA dentistry students.
