Sera Aintablian (January 20, 2002 – March 24, 2022) was a beloved daughter, friend, student and community leader.

Described as a person who “naturally uplifted others,” Sera was a second-year microbiology, immunology and molecular genetics student who had a goal of pursuing a career in medicine. Sera was very involved in the Armenian Church and community and devoted much of her free time to helping others in need. From volunteering in a hospital in her birth country, Lebanon, to being a leader in the Armenian Students’ Association on campus, Sera provided a sense of comfort and belonging to all with whom she interacted.

To honor her legacy, Sera’s friends and family have established the Sera Aintablian Scholarship to ensure her story lives on for generations of highly meritorious students to come. The merit scholarship will support students with a demonstrated record of leadership or community service with a preference for students from Holy Martyrs Ferrahian High School, Mesrobian Armenian School, Rose and Alex Pilibos Armenian School, AGBU Manoogian-Demirdjian School, and Armenian Academy at Blair High School.

Additional contributions to this fund will increase the level of support provided to students and help maximize the impact of Sera’s legacy on future students.

Gifts are managed and invested in accordance with UCLA’s endowment investment policies. The total return earned in excess of the amount approved annually for payout will be retained in the endowment principal to protect from the effects of inflation and to allow for growth. At the discretion of the appropriate campus office, when the payout is not needed for purposes of the fund, the return of payout may be added to the endowment fund principal. In the event the fund does not reach the endowment minimum; or the program ceases to exist at UCLA, proceeds from the fund will be utilized in an area and manner as closely related as possible to the original intent and purposes for which the fund was established.
