In the medical profession, the white coat is the symbol of clinical service and care. At the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, the White Coat Ceremony provides an inspiring start to the four-year journey toward becoming a physician. In the presence of family, friends, and faculty members, the Senior Associate Dean of Student Affairs and other senior representatives of the School place a white coat on each student’s shoulders. The MAA welcomes the incoming students into the medical community with a gift. The ceremony concludes with the students vowing in unison to always maintain professional attitudes and behaviors in work and in their relationships with classmates, teachers, and the community at large.
